A couple of my favorite products on the market right now are Snapchat and Google Glass. Unfortunately, today, Snapchat is not available on Google Glass. What if it was though? I decided it would be a super fun idea to explore what the experience would be like to use Snapchat on Google Glass.
First, I started writing out my thoughts. According to many different articles, Snapchat's most active users are teens and millennials. I decided to create this experience for this age group, specifically power users who own a Google Glass device. Snapchat is known for selfies but that was clearly one of the biggest constraints. You can't take selfies on Google Glass. After doing a little bit of interviews and reading some articles like Josh Miller's Eleventh Grade Tech Trends, I noticed that Snapchat's users were making a little shift in the way they use the product. It was turning into a consumption product, the new "newsfeed".
After getting my ideas down, I then had to make some decisions. There were many ways I could go about this. After coming up with many different explorations, I made decisions based on how gestures are used on other Google Glass apps as well as asking my friends at school how they would use a specific feature, since my target audience are students. After some decisions were made on the direction of some features, I had to figure out the flow of this product. What are the steps to take a picture? How about to see someone's story?
How about an option for you to see what they're doing without them having to send it to you? Sort of like a live camera. Also would this only work for other people with Glass or can you interact with people on mobile as well?
If I were to continue working on this project, I'd do a little more work on edge cases as well as new features like "stories". Maybe I'll pick this back up again sometime. ;)
